Lijiaxiang Town lies on the southwest bank of Tai Lake, in the Yangtze River Delta, close to such economically developed cities as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou. The climate is moist and the four seasons are distinctive. The whole area is 56 km2 with a population of 33 000. Its domestic traffic is very convenient. There is the Hang-Ning expressway and Shen-Su-Zhe-Wan expressway being built, 104 national road, 318 national road, which make up a developed land and water communications and transportation network together with Shen channel. It is abundant in mineral resources such as; lime stone, quartz, shale, calcite, wollastonite. The reserves of lime stone is up to 3 200 million tons, which is the largest amount of heavy quality calcium carbonate in the whole country. Lijiaxiang Town has the fastest developing economy in South Zhejiang Province, and was chosen as "sanitation town" of Zhejiang Province again in 2005.
The structure of Lijiaxiang towns industrial economy relies mainly on building materials, light textiles, machinery and the chemical industry. There are 386 industrial enterprises with a combined annual output of 2 300 million Yuan, most of which is due to calcium carbonate reserves.
The middle and northwestern part of Lijiaxiang Town has always relied on rice, grain, mulberry, fisheries and animal husbandry.
